UL-certified control stations for extreme temperatures

UL-certified Ex e control stations made of stainless steel or glass fibre reinforced polyester resin for use in North America, even under extreme temperature conditions

Ex control station demands R. STAHL

With decades of experience in explosion protection for the North American market, R. STAHL supports EPCs (engineering-procurement-construction companies), OEMs (original equipment manufacturers), system integrators as well as end users, with a range of products, system solutions, engineering services and other related services. R. STAHL has now obtained the updated UL approval for their explosion protected Ex e (increased safety) control stations 8146 and 8150 series as well as their ConSig 8040 range of control and signaling stations for use in an extended ambient temperature range. This means that the control stations 8146/5 series made out of durable glass-fiber reinforced polyester material – depending on the components installed – are now suitable for use across North America in hazardous (classified) locations at ambient temperatures between -50 °C (-58 °F) and +40 °C (104 °F). The 8150/5 series of control stations, which is made out of stainless steel, has been approved for temperatures as low as -60 °C (-76 °F) and up to +85 °C (185 °F).

The robust enclosures, which are available in different dimensions, can be individually configured and equipped with control devices, indicator lamps, illuminated pushbuttons, control switches, ammeters and voltmeters. To enable this, R. STAHL has updated and expanded their product range of control operators and bezels with the new 8602/3 series, such as pushbuttons, mushroom pushbuttons, mushroom stay-put buttons with key locks and mushroom stay-put buttons, as well as double pushbuttons and illuminated pushbuttons, and rotary actuators, key switches and LED indicator lamp bezels. In the near future, the UL certification is also expected for additional new products such as the maxi rotary actuators and the 840x/6 range of ammeters and voltmeters with associated inspection windows.

Another highlight is that R. STAHL is the first European manufacturer to obtain the Intertek / ETL Hazardous Location Panel Shop Program licence. This authorises R. STAHL to engineer, design and build customer-specific industrial and explosion-protected switching and control cabinets in their own production facility in accordance with UL and ISA standards, certified by Intertek ETL for use in the USA and in Canada. Thanks to the faster supply of certified products, machine builders and OEMs can now significantly reduce their systems' "time to market".
